World of Music, Arts and Dance (WOMAD) festival
We stayed in town this weekend so that we could attend the WOMAD international drum festival. It was an absolutely wonderful experience. We saw world-class artists in the most amazing venue. The concert was held at the Galle Face Green – a beautiful ocean front park. Behind the stage was the Galle Face Hotel – which is older than the country of Canada! There were colourful flags that represented each of the bands. We listened to a band from Burundi as we watched the sunset into the ocean. The music played from 6pm – 12am. Besides the African band we heard bands from the UK, Japan and Cuba. The concert was absolutely free!
Damien and his wife Carrie (who works for the British Council) invited us to attend the concert. Dinukh, another friend from the gym, his friend Namal, and some of Carrie’s colleagues came as well.
